Trans|cendental Cinema seeks to highlight queer and trans perspectives on the movies. From the current cinema to world classics, our goal is to examine cinema through a decidedly and unapologetically queer lens.

About the Author

Mattie Lucas is a freelance film critic whose work appeared in print in the Dispatch of Lexington, serving as the newspaper’s correspondent critic for 16 years, beginning in 2004 when she was a senior in high school, until 2020. She founded her movie blog, From the Front Row on October 31, 2006 where she has been steadily writing reviews ever since. She has also been a staff critic at In Review Online since 2009 and continues to contribute regularly. Her latest venture, Trans|cendental Cinema, aims to bring a transgender perspective to the art of film criticism.

Mattie is a member of the Southeastern Film Critics Association, the North Carolina Film Critics Society, GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, the Online Film Critics Society, and is a Tomatometer Approved critic on Rotten Tomatoes. Mattie attended Appalachian State University where she studied Theatre and Film Studies and resides in North Carolina.
